Свято Покрови у ставропігійній парафії святителя Миколая Чудотворця у м.Філадельфія, США (UA/EN)

У неділю, 18 жовтня 2020 року, ставропігійна парафія святителя Миколая Чудотворця у м. Філадельфія (США) відзначила свято Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці. Також цього дня у храмі вшанували Сестринство церкви.

На честь свята храм прикрасили яскраво-блакитними полотнами та великою кількістю квітів.

«Свято Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці нагадує про чудесне явлення Матері Божої в середині X століття у Константинополі у церкві Влахерни, де зберігся її одяг, покривало та пояс. Пресвята Богородиця явилася вірянам у цій церкві, взяла своє покривало і розіслала над людьми, захищаючи від ворогів: видимих і невидимих. А потім вона благала Господа Ісуса Христа прийняти молитви всіх людей, які Його кличуть, і відповісти на її заступництво», – зазначив настоятель парафії протоієрей Богдан Згоба.

Отець Богдан у співслужінні клірика храму протоієрея Олексія Качарая звершив Божественну літургію, під час якої помолився за церковне Сестринство: живих та усопших. Він зазначив, що Сестринство храму вшановують вже 89 років.

«З 1931 року сестри церкви жили відповідно до зачитаного сьогодні Писання. Вони працювали, чистили, готували, шили та прикрашали свою улюблену церкву Святого Миколая, не чекаючи нічого натомість», – повідомив він.

Після цього був відслужений молебень з акафістом Пресвятій Богородиці та помазання єлеєм. Під час молебню представниці Сестринства, яких відзначили за самовіддане служіння парафії, тримали свічки у центрі храму. Усі молилися Пресвятій Богородиці та просили про Її захист.

На завершення акафісту отець Богдан виголосив проповідь та вручив квіти членам Сестринської ради.

«Ви щойно чули чудову молитву до Пресвятої Богородиці – акафіст – співану сьогодні за всю Сестринську раду і на її честь: президентки Барбари Лаціос, віце-президентки Вікі Боррієлло, секретарки Діани Кавчок та скарбниці Елен Ханавін – і на честь усіх численних членів Сестринства. Нехай Пресвята Богородиця почує їхні молитви і захистить їх», – зазначив настоятель.

Завершилося свято урочистим обідом у залі церкви.

Saint Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church in Philadelphia, USA – Stavropigia of His Holiness Patriarch Philaret – celebrated the Feast Day of the Protection of the Holy Theotokos on Sunday, October 18, 2020. The Church’s “Sisterhood of the Protection of the Holy Theotokos” was honored on its name day. The Sanctuary was festively decorated with bright blue cloths and an abundance of flowers.

The day began with Divine Liturgy served by Very Reverend Bohdan Zhoba, Rector, during which prayers for the Sisterhood members, both living and departed, were said. Divine Liturgy was followed by the “Akathist to the Holy Theotokos” prayer service and the blessing of the Sisterhood with Holy Oil. The Sisterhood officers and members held pillar candles in the center of the Church during the Akathist. They were recognized for their selfless service to Saint Nicholas Church and the Orthodox faith. The congregation prayed to the Holy Theotokos for their protection.

At the conclusion of the Akathist, Father Bohdan gave his Sermon to the Congregation and presented the Sisterhood Council Members, Barbara Latsios, President, Vicki Borriello, Vice-President, Diane Kavchok, Secretary, and Ellen Hanavin, Treasurer, with bouquets of flowers. A gala lunch in the Church Hall concluded the festive day!

Today we honor the Sisterhood of our Saint Nicholas Church on the Feast Day of the Protection of the Theotokos. Since 1931 — for 89 years! — the ladies of the church lived the words of today’s Scripture reading. They worked, cleaned, cooked, sewed and beautified their beloved Saint Nicholas Church expecting nothing in return. The Feast Day of the Protection of the Theotokos recalls the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God in the mid-10th Century in Constantinople in the Blachernae Church where her robe, veil, and belt had been preserved. The most Holy Lady Theotokos appeared to the faithful in this Church, took her veil and spread it over the people, protecting them from enemies both visible and invisible. And then she implored the Lord Jesus Christ to accept the prayers of all the people calling on Him and to respond to her intercession. You just heard the beautiful prayer to the Holy Theotokos – the Akathist – sung today in honor of the Sisterhood Council: Barbara Latsios, President; Vicki Borriello, Vice President; Diane Kavchok, Secretary; and Ellen Hanavin, Treasurer – and in honor of all the many members of the Sisterhood. May the Holy Theotokos hear their prayers and protect them. And let us remember all the past Sisterhood presidents, officers and members. Their devotion. Their sacrifices. The love they had for their faith and Saint Nicholas Church. May their memory be eternal. And now let’s wish the Sisterhood “MANY YEARS” and then go downstairs to the Church Hall for a festive lunch in their honor!
